How to Take the Perfect Engagement Ring Selfie

Just got engaged? Congratulations! When you’re ready to share your wonderful news with the world, you’re bound to turn to social media. Uploading a photo of your stunning engagement ring along with a beautifully-worded caption is one of the easiest ways to tell all your family and friends at once.

Thankfully, you don’t need to be a professional photographer or have an expensive camera to get a great shot. Here are some tips to help you take the perfect engagement ring selfie with the camera on your phone.

Natural lighting

Getting the lighting right is the key to taking a professional-quality shot. For the best results, avoid taking your selfie in direct sunlight. Stay indoors and take your shot next to a window on a bright day. Make sure you’re standing side-on to the window, not in front of it. If your palm is facing the window, you’ll capture nothing but a shadow.

Get your nails done

Even the most beautiful engagement ring in the world will struggle to look good if you haven’t been taking care of your nails. If you can get a professional manicure done before you take your engagement ring selfie, that’s great. But if not, you can trim and paint your nails yourself at home for a similar effect.

If you’ve been proposed to on holiday and can’t do anything about your nails, get clever about the way you pose your hand. There are plenty of ways you can subtly hide your nails, like holding your partner’s hand or angling the camera so your nails aren’t in the shot.

Make sure your ring’s sparkling

While you’re planning your dream wedding, chances are you’re going to be taking a lot of engagement ring selfies — not just one after you got engaged. You probably won’t realise because you see it every day. But over time, dirt and dust will steal a little bit of sparkle away from your ring.

To make sure your ring looks as gorgeous as it did when you first saw it, follow our advice on how to keep your engagement ring in tip top condition before you take your next ring selfie.

Experiment with poses

There’s no right or wrong way to take an engagement ring selfie. Some poses will look and feel natural, while others will come across as stiff and forced. Play around with different poses and angles until you find one that works for you.

Get creative with your backdrop

Of course, you want your engagement ring to be the star of the show. But there’s no reason you can’t enhance it with a gorgeous backdrop. If you were proposed to somewhere romantic like Paris, you could pose in front of the Eiffel Tower. Or if you got engaged somewhere a bit closer to home, like Newcastle, you could pose with the Tyne Bridge in the background.
