Travelling with Jewellery: How to Keep Your Favourites Safe
Whether you’re planning your honeymoon or a romantic weekend away, you’ll almost certainly want to take your engagement ring, wedding band, or favourite necklace with you. But packing jewellery for a trip isn’t as simple as tossing it in a case with your clothes and wash bag — not if you want to be able to wear it when you arrive at your destination!
To help keep your jewellery safe and looking its best, follow our tips to keep your favourite pieces safe the next time you’re travelling.
Keep it simple
It may be tempting to take your entire jewellery collection with you, but it’s best to keep things simple. The fewer pieces you take with you, the lower the odds of them getting damaged or lost.
Wear them
One of the best ways to keep your best jewellery safe while travelling is to wear it. This will come naturally for your engagement, wedding, and eternity rings. But it’s not so easy for delicate things like bracelets or earrings.
Store them in a travel case
Store anything you can’t wear while travelling in a special travel-sized jewellery case. Look for one that has dedicated compartments to store the specific type of jewellery you’ll be taking with you. They come in all sizes, so you can even pack one if you’re travelling with hand luggage only.
Separate necklaces
No matter how careful you are when storing necklaces in a travel case, the chains always seem to get tangled up. Avoid an untangling nightmare when you arrive by storing your necklaces separately within the travel case. Soft pouches or even tiny plastic resealable bags work great to keep them apart from your other jewellery.
Pack them in your hand luggage
Even if you’ve paid extra for checked luggage, it’s a good idea to keep your jewellery with you in your hand luggage. By keeping your jewellery close, it’s unlikely to get lost.
Use the hotel safe
When you arrive at your destination with your jewellery intact, keep it secure by locking it away in your room’s safe. Keep it locked in there whenever you’re not in your room and whenever you’re not wearing it. Just don’t forget to empty the safe before you leave!
Remove them when necessary
You might love the feel of natural saltwater on your skin but the same can’t be said for your jewellery. Remove it and leave it in the hotel safe whenever you plan on going swimming, being active, or doing anything else that could potentially damage your jewellery. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Travel smart
The best way to keep your jewellery safe while travelling is to keep it at home. But what’s the point in having beautiful diamond jewellery if you don’t get to wear it during special moments? Follow our advice and you’ll get to show off your sparkle while still keeping it safe.
